The sound design is some of the best you will hear in a video game, wistful bass driven melodies coupled with some very subtle sound effects accompanying you on your journey towards enlightenment. A charming example of this is the level select screen tags hanging from a spiralling tree represent the stages themselves with blossoming flowers signifying each stage’s level of completion. The quality of the presentation in Zen Bound is exceptionally high. One finger will spin the figure while two fingers will rotate it, tilting the iPhone will subtly change the angle of the string and by using a combination of these techniques it’s possible to approach the levels in many different ways.

Zen Bound is available right now in the App Store for $4.99 (with the free update available 'soon'), and there's a lite version to try out as well.The launch of a new action/adventure game is often heralded with phrases such as “truly immersive world” or “unique gameplay experience”, fans of the genre are bombarded with titles that promise to captivate but often fall short of the marketing hype. Still, especially for free, it sounds like the update will only make a great game better. The game has been remastered for the Nintendo Switch with a completely new control method as well as improved graphics and audio. It is an opportunity to slow down, zone out, and focus on a task that’s challenging but not stressful: a set of gentle spatial puzzles. The goal in Zen Bound is to cover the wood with as much paint as possible. Zen Bound 2 is a unique down-tempo indie game. The rope always hangs down on the screen and is controlled by the accelerometer. The paint spread by the rope will be smoother, and the problem of the rope crossing through objects should be better (while that happened from time to time, it wasn't a huge complaint). Players must rotate a wooden shape by pinching and twisting it with their fingers on the multi-touch display. The update probably won't help free my mind - not only will it have a whole set of new objects to wrap up (featuring some fun retro-gaming themed pieces), but it's getting some bugfixes and some performance tweaks as well. When I first installed it, I thought of it as more of a tech demo than a game, but as you load it up more and more, you really do start uncovering layers of competition - 'if only I twisted the statue that way I could cover more ground, or maybe if I started from that leg I could wrap around closer on that side.' It's pretty addictive, and it's one of those games that starts tugging at your mind even when you're not playing it.
